JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Fletcher Middle School student was arrested and accused of “making a serious threat of violence” against the school and possessing contraband, the principal said in a message to parents.

Officials said the incident did not involve a weapon being brought or found on campus. The district emphasized the importance of students and parents saying something if they see something and using the FortifyFL tool.

Read the full message from Principal McKenzie below.

Hello Fletcher Middle School families, this is Principal McKenzie. I regret having to interrupt your day, but I want to ensure you are informed about an important security matter. Thanks to multiple reports from students, our school police conducted an investigation and arrested a student for allegedly making a serious threat of violence against our school and being in the possession of contraband. The student is now facing serious criminal charges and school disciplinary consequences. It is never easy to see a child leave our campus in police custody. However, threats that endanger the safety of our students and staff will be taken seriously and addressed with zero tolerance. I ask that you use this as an opportunity to speak with your child, and discuss the severe, life-changing consequences from making a threat. I do want to recognize and thank the students who immediately reported this situation to faculty and staff. Their actions made a difference. “See Something, Say Something” remains one of our strongest safeguards. Please continue to encourage your child to share any safety concerns with a trusted adult or report them through the Fortify Florida app. Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping Fletcher Middle School a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.
