JSO Ofc. Antonio Richardson and others are shown talking the man down from the bridge in April. JSO said it showed how much their officers cared for the community.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — “We do what we do every day because we care about you.”
That’s the message the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office wants to tell the community after releasing body-worn camera video of one of their officers talking a man down from jumping off the Dames Point Bridge in Jacksonville earlier in April.
On Sunday, April 12, officers were called to the bridge after a man was spotted getting ready to jump.
Ofc. Antonio Richardson is shown extending his hand to the man, offering to pray for him. Other responding officers are also seen encouraging the man to take Richardson’s hand.
“Whatever you’re going through, you can get through it,” Richardson is heard telling the man.
The man then takes Richardson’s hand and the two embrace on the side of the bridge.
“[The devil] ain’t got you, we got you, alright?” Richardson is heard telling the man.

JSO said in that moment, their officers weren’t the police, but rather people showing how much they cared for another person.
