From first-timers to seasoned pros and everyone in between, Sew Pinellas in St. Pete is the area’s go-to spot for all things sewing. Their classes and open sewing events are local favorites, and their sprawling fabric and supply shop is the best of its kind in St. Pete, especially as the big box stores close down (though we always preferred supporting local anyway).
The fabric shop at Sew Pinellas (5601 Haines Road) is a veritable sewing emporium. The store is overflowing with gorgeous textiles for every type of project, a wide array of laces, ribbons, and adornments, Necchi Sewing Machines, and tons of pre-cut fabric bundles, books, and even Sew Pinellas tees. It’s everything you need and more, all in one place.

One of the best ways to experience Sew Pinellas combines all the things that make the shop so beloved. The free Open Sew experience merges events and shopping every weekend. During the fabric store’s shopping hours every Friday from 2:30-5:30 pm, Sew Pinellas also opens up its work studio. Guests have full access to all machines, tools, and the cozy studio space – all for free. The Friday Social Sewing happy hours have become some of the most popular events in town.
Sewing enthusiasts and newcomers alike are invited to bring in their projects and take advantage of the professional studio filled with all the equipment they could ever need. There’s no appointment needed – just stop in, grab a seat, and get to work.
Plus, you have access to the fantastic storefront at Sew Pinellas, packed full of fabrics, sewing supplies, and more.
The expert and friendly Sew Pinellas staff are always on hand to answer questions, offer direction, and help you find the perfect supplies to get your project started (or finally finished). We highly recommend doing your supply shopping during the Open Sew weekend hours, allowing you to roll straight into the project as soon as it comes alive in your mind. The creative vibes in the studio are “sew” contagious you won’t want to leave.

We also love how much they work with teens to help cultivate the hobby among students.
