LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The UALR Women’s Golf Team is headed to the Sunshine State as they were selected to the Tallahassee Regional as the No.11 in the NCAA Golf Regionals. The Trojans will play at the Seminole Legacy Golf Club, and it will be hosted by Florida State.
The toughest competitor in their 12-team field is the No.1 seed Florida Gators, who are also the No.3 team in the country. The other teams include Wake Forest, UCLA, Florida State, Kentucky, Clemson, Purdue, Little Rock, North Florida, ULM, Eastern Michigan and UTRGV.
The key for them to make a deep postseason run is to carry the momentum they’ve got from winning the OVC Championship.
“What do we want to accomplish to make the top five,” Head Coach Jenna Birch said. “Make it out and to regionals. I wouldn’t be the coach that I am. If I just want to show up and the girls themselves, they want to make it out. They’ve already started grinding. They’re already getting prepared for it.”
This selection came as a surprise as in the past few weeks Coach Birch never had an inkling that they Trojans could be selected to the Stanford or the Tallahassee Regional.
“Florida is a great state to play golf in,” Birch said. “I’m grateful we’re going where it’s warm. I will say that. We’ve already played an event in Florida at this time of year; the grass is a little similar with Bermuda. So, it’s not going to be that much of a difference. Like they mentioned on the show, the time zone change isn’t that drastic.
The tournament runs from May 11-13.
