FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — Witness interviews are underway on Thursday in Thomas Stein’s trial for the death of 15-year-old Kayla Rincon-Miller.

Both girls who were with Kayla that night testified, recounting what they said started as a fun girls’ night. Louanne Dejaie and Emma Wright said they were walking down the street on the way to McDonald’s after a movie at the Coralwood Shopping Plaza near Del Prado Boulevard, taking pictures and laughing when an SUV pulled up.

They said the SUV turned around and flashed them with its high beams. Then they explained that all four doors opened and the boys started demanding money, and guns were held to their heads.

They said after a tussle, they heard three gunshots, and the boys ran. But they say one of the boys looked at the other and asked why they shot.

“She was just like ‘I just got shot,’ and I just remember telling her it’s going to be okay. I just didn’t want to believe it,” Dejaie said.
