JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — Jacksonville’s annual Jamboree festival is being postponed due to expected weather this weekend, with organizers announcing a new date of Saturday, May 30.

The festival, originally set for May 2, will still be held at the Jacksonville Recreation Complex at 100 Recreation Lane.

City officials say the decision was made out of caution as forecasts show a strong chance of storms.

“The forecasted storm for this weekend has forced us to look at alternative options,” said Susan Baptist, Director of Recreation Services. “After much communication we are happy that our entertainment, vendors and amusements are available for May 30, allowing us to secure an alternate date. This will allow us a better opportunity to provide an event to our community and hopefully it will be a beautiful day to enjoy.”

While the main festival is delayed, several Jamboree-related events are still moving forward as planned.

A kickoff concert scheduled for Friday, May 1, will go on as planned at Jacksonville Commons. The free event begins at 5:30 p.m. and will feature live performances from Roland Avenue and The Conspiracy. Food trucks, a beer garden and market vendors will also be on site.

The annual youth USBA basketball tournament will also continue this weekend, bringing 56 teams to Jacksonville. Games will take place at the Jacksonville Commons Gymnasium, and spectators are welcome to attend.

Organizers say they’re looking forward to bringing the full Jamboree experience to the community later this month—hopefully with clearer skies.
