Prior to the government shutdown, the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge reported that it was planning for a November completion of its Visitor & Education Center on Sanibel.

The J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel reported that due to the lapse in federal appropriations, most U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service personnel will not be available during the government shutdown. Its Visitor & Education Center, restrooms and administrative offices are closed; the restrooms on Wildlife Drive remain open. Public access to the refuge’s lands and waters, such as Wildlife Drive, Indigo Trail, Bailey Tract and Tarpon Bay Explorers, remain open. It includes the continuation of narrated tram tours on Wildlife Drive on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. For more information, visit https://www.doi.gov/shutdown.
