It was a costly week at the pump for Miami drivers, with gas prices jumping sharply across the region.
The average price of gasoline in Miami rose 39.7 cents per gallon over the past week, pushing the average to $4.37 per gallon to start the week. That is higher than May 2022, when the average price was $4.22, the last time the average cost per gallon that high.
Drivers in the Miami metro area are now paying 17.1 cents per gallon more than a month ago and $1.36 more than a year ago.
According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Miami was priced at $3.79 per gallon on Sunday, while the most expensive reached $5.79 per gallon. On Key Biscayne, gas at both stations remained at $4.99 per gallon.
In neighboring Fort Lauderdale and Broward County, the average of a gallon of regular gasoline was $4.29.
Nationally, the average price of gasoline rose 38.2 cents per gallon last week, averaging $4.42 per gallon to start the week.
“Gasoline prices rose in every state over the last week,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “While refinery outages were a key driver behind those outsized increases, early signs of improvement could help ease some of the most extreme price pressures.”
