PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — Port St. Lucie police had a simple message for one driver this week: not so fast.
Officers with the Port St. Lucie Police Department announced on May 1 that they stopped 23-year-old Trevor Chery after clocking him at a jaw-dropping 90 miles per hour in a 40 mph zone on Northwest Prima Vista Boulevard near Sportsman’s Park. It’s an area where people regularly walk, play, and enjoy time outdoors — not exactly a place built for racetrack speeds.
Police say Chery was arrested for a super speed violation, issued a citation, and taken to the St. Lucie County Jail. Officers described the stop as straightforward, with no additional incidents.

While the encounter itself was calm, the message behind it was anything but casual. Speeding at more than double the limit dramatically increases the risk of serious crashes, especially near parks and high-traffic community areas.
