Investigators said officers responded to Rigel Road around 11:30 p.m. Monday after neighbors called saying the man kicked down their doors holding a gun.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is dead after JSO investigators said he pointed a gun at them when they responded to him kicking down doors to random homes on Jacksonville’s Southside late Monday night.

Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office investigators said officers responded to Rigel Road around 11:30 p.m. Monday to calls for armed criminal mischief.

Investigators said the man kicked down the doors to four homes in the area, holding a handgun and confronting several residents.

When officers arrived and began speaking with the victims, investigators said the man approached officers and pointed the handgun at them.

Officers ordered the man to drop the gun, but investigators said he did not, and that’s when four officers opened fire, killing him. No officers were injured.

Investigators are withholding the man’s identity, but said he was a convicted felon in both Florida and Texas.

The State Attorney’s Office is now investigating the scene.
