FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — Lee County commissioners approved a construction contract Tuesday to build a skate park at Schandler Hall Community Park.
The $589,088 contract was awarded to Select Development Group LLC. The project aims to transform the existing multi-use field at 419 Royal Palm Park Road into a dedicated skate facility.
The skate park aims to install features and obstacles to create a safe space for skateboarders. The addition responds to public requests for a skate facility in central Lee County.
Lee County already operates a skate park at Veterans Park in Lehigh Acres. The new facility will serve the Tice and Fort Myers Shores neighborhoods.
Schandler Hall Community Park spans 11.2 acres and includes a community center, playground, tennis courts, covered basketball courts and sand volleyball court. The skate park will enhance the park’s functionality and community value, according to the release.
Community Park Impact Fees will fund the construction. Work is expected to begin this summer and be completed next spring.
