The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the two cars collided when the man attempted to make a left turn from Monument Road onto Lee Road.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is dead and a woman hospitalized after a collision on Monument Road Wednesday night, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
First Coast News arrived to the scene, near the intersection with Lee Road, to see a smashed Jeep laying on its roof on the side of the road.
The sheriff’s office said it happened at around 5:50 p.m., during the evening commute.
A woman in her 30s was driving the Jeep eastbound on Monument Rd., JSO said, while a man in his late 50s was driving westbound in a Kia. When the man attempted to make a left turn onto Lee Road, the two cars collided, causing the Jeep to rollover into a nearby empty retention pond.
Although both drivers were taken to a hospital, the man was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. JSO said the woman is in “stable condition.”
Lee Road remained closed into the late evening hours.
This is the 141st traffic death in Duval County this year, according to JSO reporting.
