TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce is looking to take on a larger role in recruiting new businesses to the capital city.
Local government already has the Office of Economic Vitality (OEV) that’s in charge of recruiting new businesses, but the Chamber says it wants to become the “quarterback” to jumpstart the economy.
The Chamber Board’s President, Eddie Gonzalez-Loumiet, said he’s heard some of the complaints about OEV, but he says the new initiative is not about pointing fingers.
“Well, maybe OEV is not doing this or not doing that. We’re staying out of that game. They have a role to play. We feel, as a private sector, not only the chamber, as a private sector, that we have to step up, that we have a responsibility to be the QB.”

OEV is responsible for big projects like landing Amazon, but they’ve faced some criticism for a lack of other recognized logos. The Chamber says it’s happy to hand the ball off to OEV after an initial intake.
“While incentives and things like that are important, imagine if we roll out the red carpet. Imagine if there’s an organization coming into Tallahassee and we tell them what are the amazing things that we have in our community that can move the needle,” said Gonzalez-Loumiet.
