A MAJOR US airline is scrambling to fill a gap left by Spirit Airlines after it ceased operations over the weekend.
The new route will take Americans directly to the theme park capital of the world.

The new route established by Frontier Airlines will run out of the Memphis International Airport, according to a press release from the travel hub.
This new route will go directly to the Orlando International Airport, with service starting on July 5.
Flights will run three times a week, on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday, through September 13.
Frequency will then be reduced to twice weekly after September 13 as summer winds down and families are vacationing less frequently.

“We at MEM are excited to see Frontier add another option to one of our most popular destinations in Orlando,” said Michael Keeney, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners for Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority, in the press release.
“We look forward to Frontier’s continued expansion in Memphis!” added Keeney.
Orlando’s popularity as a route out of the Memphis travel hub can be attributed to its status as the theme park capital of the world.
Walt Disney World, Universal Studios Orlando, and SeaWorld Orlando are the most notable theme parks in the Florida city.

The move by Frontier will fill the gap left in Memphis International by the shutdown of Spirit Airlines after failing to receive a federal bailout.
Spirit’s direct route to Orlando was the only one it offered out of Memphis.
Tickets for Frontier’s replacement route are now on sale.

“Our newly announced nonstop service from Memphis International Airport to Orlando International Airport, beginning July 5, is among several we are adding in the wake of Spirit’s shutdown. We currently serve more than 100 routes previously flown by Spirit and will expand further this summer, including this new route to Orlando.

In December, Frontier announced 23 additional routes set to launch this year.
“We’re thrilled to kick things off with the announcement of these new routes, giving travelers even more affordable options as they plan their spring breaks next year,” said Josh Flyr, vice president of network and operations design.
The airline also introduced other new features to its flights, including new seating options which will bring First Class fares to the budget carrier.
“As we look ahead to 2026, there’s a lot to be excited about – from our expanding network to the introduction of our new First Class seats and more,” said Flyr.
