TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The PBJ PLZ! Pick Up Blitz is underway!
On Tuesday, Second Harvest started picking up tons of peanut butter and jelly from Leon County Schools, with a final weigh in set for next week.
Students at Leon County Schools, along with several private schools and community groups, collected jars of peanut butter and jelly during the month of April as part of WCTV’s PBJ PLZ! drive.
Now Second Harvest drivers are behind the wheel of a specially wrapped 26-foot truck and visiting nearly 50 schools to pick up those donations this week.
The donations from each school will be weighed when they arrive at the Second Harvest warehouse.
The goal this year? Ten tons of peanut butter and jelly.
A final weigh-in is set for next Thursday, May 14 with the total to be revealed live on WCTV’s Eyewitness News at Noon.
The community has already far surpassed this year’s monetary goal of $50,000 with donations currently topping $67,000.
PBJ PLZ! is an annual drive designed to help hungry children in the summer when they cannot count on meals at school. Leon County School students are invited to donate jars of peanut butter and jelly and community members are invited to donate online throughout the month of April.
PBJ PLZ! has brought in nearly 50 tons of peanut butter and jelly and more than $300,000 for Second Harvest since it began in 2016.
