DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – An Eastern Carolina man has died following a crash Sunday morning near the Davidson/Rowan County line.
Michael Hall of Jacksonville was heading north around 9 a.m. Sunday on the Yadkin River Veterans Memorial Bridge when the crash happened, according to highway patrol.
A report says the 41-year-old ran off the left side of the road, overcorrected and crashed into the bridge’s concrete barrier on the right side, sending his vehicle onto the road where it landed on its side.
At that point, Davidson County Sheriff’s Office Captain Chris Poole says Hall busted a window out of the car, got out and jumped over the side of the bridge into the water.
He was found later that afternoon and pronounced dead by the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office.
The road was shut down following the crash for an investigation and reopened around 2:30 p.m.
His cause of death will be determined following an autopsy, officials say.
