TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A fourth-grade teacher at Springwood Elementary School received a surprise recognition as April’s Teacher of the Month, an honor presented by WCTV and Addition Financial.
Ervin Johnson, who teaches reading and also serves as an intermediate reading coach, was selected for his dedication to student growth and academic excellence. His nominator praised his ability to encourage deep thinking and hold students accountable while supporting their progress.
“What motivates me to keep teaching is the faces everyday,” Johnson said. “I’m making an impact, and I love see students grow throughout the year.”
In addition to teaching, Johnson develops lesson plans across multiple grade levels. His work carries special meaning, as he now teaches in the same school he once attended as a student.
“It’s a complete full circle for me,” Johnson said. “It’s surreal to me, but I know I have a purpose to be here.”
Students say his impact goes beyond academics.
“He’s a really good teacher overall, just perfect,” said student Taeo Williams. “I was proud of him because that’s my school dad.”
Johnson has been teaching for 13 years.
