100+ more job cuts at Ft. Lauderdale airport after Spirit shut down
Over a hundred more people lost their jobs at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport after layoffs by an aviation services firm.
According to a WARN notice received by the state of Florida on May 6, Maximus Global Services cut 123 employees on May 3. Based on its website, the company provides services in ramp handling and commercial cleaning, as well as assistance with passengers, transport and security.
The cuts include five cleaning specialists, 106 customer service agents, four dispatchers, seven supervisors and one lead agent, according to the letter included in the notice, signed by Vicky Matamoros, Vice President of HR. None of the employees were represented by a union.
According to the “Client Testimonials” portion of its website, the company has previously worked with employees at Spirit Airlines. Several left Maximus Global Services positive reviews, including Anette Andersen, listed on MGS’s website as a director with the airline and Aline Levy, who was listed as a general manager.
Maximus Global Services did not immediately respond to a request for comment by the USA TODAY Network.
