NORTH HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A man was arrested in Florida by North Haven police for allegedly attempting to withdraw more than $500,000 from somebody’s bank account using false identification last year, according to police.
Marcos Mokas, 54, of Florida, was arrested Friday and charged with two counts of criminal attempt to commit first-degree larceny, two counts of first-degree identity theft, two counts of criminal impersonation and two counts of first-degree forgery.

North Haven detectives began their investigation on June 12, 2025, after a local bank reported an unidentified man attempting to withdraw $515,000 from a resident’s bank account using their personal information the day before.
The resident received a notification of the attempted withdrawal and stopped the transaction before any funds were released.
The same person returned to the bank the next day and presented the false identification in another attempt at a transaction, issuing a second check in excess of $515,000, according to police. The transaction was stopped again by the resident.
Multiple search warrants and a review of surveillance footage and financial records led detectives to Mokas with the help of the Department of Homeland Security and the Drug Enforcement Agency.

A nationwide arrest warrant was issued, and Mokas was taken into custody by the Fort Pierce Police Department in Florida on Feb. 22, 2026.
North Haven detectives traveled to Florida and took custody of Mokas, escorting him back to the North Haven Police Department and formally charging him on Friday.
Mokas is being held on bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
