Dallas Trinity FC earned a clean sheet victory over Tampa Bay Sun FC on Saturday to maintain a four-point cushion for the final playoff spot in the Gainbridge Super League standings.
Trinity downed Tampa Bay 2-0 behind a pair of first-half goals from McKinney native Samar Guidry and Mansfield’s Camryn Lancaster, with goalie Tyler McCamey securing her second shutout of the season.
“We knew in the second half that they were going to push and try to come after us a little bit,” head coach Nathan Thackery said after the win. “I was happy with our intensity and composure to combat their efforts.”
Guidry started the scoring right out of the gate for Trinity with a goal in the second minute, piping a shot past the Tampa Bay goalie off a nice lead from Lancaster. It was the first goal of Guidry’s professional career.
Lancaster would score herself not long after, firing one into the corner of the net in the 27th minute.
“We’ve been working really hard. Every single week, no matter the final score, we’re learning from the result that happened,” Lancaster said. “We’ve been coming to training focused and having a good mindset heading into the next match.”
Dallas (10-10-7, 37 points) stays four points ahead of fifth-place DC Power FC with the win. Sixth-place Spokane Zephyr FC is just four points behind Trinity as well, with a match in hand.
