Cape Coral Parkway construction begins in hopes to ease traffic congestion

Construction crews are moving into Cape Coral Parkway East Monday as the city begins a major project to widen the roadway and improve traffic flow.The work zone spans from SE 15th Avenue/Cape Coral Street to Coronado Parkway, targeting a section of the parkway that often gets backed up during the day, especially for commuters traveling between Cape Coral and Fort Myers. The plan is to expand the road to six lanes by converting the current parking lanes into additional travel lanes. City leaders said the project is part of a larger effort to keep up with Cape Coral’s rapid growth and prepare for increased traffic once the Cape Coral Bridge replacement project begins. For now, outside lane closures are expected during off-peak hours from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The city said two lanes will remain open in both directions, so no detours are anticipated.
