Officials say one wildfire has scorched at least 5,000 acres in Broward County as of Monday morning.
FLORIDA, USA — Multiple wildfires are burning across South Florida, reducing visibility and affecting air quality for those in the area.
One blaze, dubbed the Max Road Fire, has scorched at least 5,000 acres in Broward County and is only 30% contained as of Monday morning, according to fire officials.
The Florida Forest Service is working with multiple local fire departments to get the fires under control. The Pembroke Pines Fire Rescue Department said there is “still no imminent threat to the community,” but urges people to remain aware in case conditions worsen.

Florida current drought conditions
Florida reached 100% drought coverage for the first time in late February since record-keeping began in 2000. And the entire state is still under some level of drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.
Conditions are the worst in parts of the Panhandle, which are experiencing the most intense level of drought. Most of South Florida and the entire Tampa Bay area are experiencing extreme drought conditions.
While beneficial, the U.S. Drought Monitor says recent rainfall did “little more than stabilize conditions” across northern Florida, where soil moisture and streamflows remain very low.
