Wildfires continue to burn in Florida, wreaking havoc in parts of the state.

There are two fires: one called the Max Road Fire, which is burning in the Everglades west of U.S. 27 and Pines Boulevard in Broward County, and the other called 172 Ave Fire, which is located near Miami-Dade’s Florida City in Miami-Dade County.

According to data on the Florida Forest Service website as of Tuesday, May 12, the Max Road Fire has grown to 11,339 acres and is 70% contained, and the 172 Avenue Fire, which is 300 acres, is 50% contained.

According to reporting by local media outlets, firefighters from multiple departments are working together to battle the two blazes.

Firefighters are battling wildfires in two southeastern states, prompting officials in one to issue its first ever burn ban, authorities said on April 22. The blazes, created by “extreme drought,” are burning across parts of southern Georgia and northeast Florida, forcing road closures and destroying homes and buildings in their path, officials said.

The fire is impacting air quality in certain areas but there appears to be no imminent danger as no deaths or injuries have been reported. People living in areas near the wildfires should monitor evacuation orders and road closures.

Residents will be watching the weather as the forecast has a 40% to 70% chance of showers possible in South Florida, with thunderstorms from Tuesday through Thursday, May 14.

These wildfires in the state come weeks after a separate set of blazes burned thousands of acres in not only Florida but also in Georgia.
