Alligator Alcatraz operations may end as early as June | State

SOUTHWEST FLORIDA, (WINK) — Alligator Alcatraz may shut down operations as early as June, according to the New York Times.

On Tuesday, the Times reported that vendors for the detention center are being told the center will start to move detainees in June.

This comes days after a news conference in Lee County, where WINK News Anchor Claire Galt asked DeSantis whether he had personally heard from President Donald Trump or the Department of Homeland Security about shutting the facility down.

“I have not talked to the President about it, but I’ve talked to Tom Homan about it,” DeSantis said. “He does not want to relinquish the ability to use those beds, was my understanding.”

CBS News says the decision to close the facility has been speculated, with Gov. Ron DeSantis saying he expected it to close soon.
