Alex Otaola announces end of Miami-Dade mayor’s recall campaign

MIAMI — Cuban-American YouTuber Alex Otaola announced on Wednesday that he was ending his effort to recall Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava.

In a statement, Otaola said he “did not obtain the required number of signatures to convene the special election,” so “the recall effort was not successful.”

The petition was approved in January. It required about 66,000 valid Miami-Dade County residents’ signatures by Thursday.

Otaola, who has 728,000 subscribers on YouTube, had criticized Levine Cava as a leftist who had neglected Miami International Airport and Miami Animal Services.
