A woman accused of abusing a child in Broward County last year was arrested on Monday, authorities said.
Kimberly Rivera, 29, was charged with aggravated child abuse and child neglect with bodily harm.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Rivera on Monday approached a deputy in North Lauderdale and said she possibly had an active warrant and went to the station to turn herself in.
An arrest report said that on Oct. 18, 2026, a deputy arrived at the Broward General Medical Center after the Department of Children and Families requested service.
The infant has several injuries, including a non-displaced mid left clavicle fracture, a rib fracture and a bite mark, the report said.
Rivera initially said the infant’s injuries could have been caused by his brother while they were rough playing, the report said. She then said she felt overwhelmed and described herself as ‘”not really okay.”
Someone who knew Rivera told deputies that she came clean, told him she was frustrated and directly told him, “I squeezed the baby,” the report said.
He also said Rivera had been crying and expressed suicidal thoughts, the report said.
During their investigation, on Oct. 27, detectives were able to extract a confession that was saved on Rivera’s phone that detailed her emotional instability and suicidal thoughts, the report said.
In one note, the report said, Rivera said “One night I let the frustration and post pardon depression get over me and I squeezed [redacted] because he wouldn’t stop crying.”
