Heavy vegetation fueled slow-moving Stuart brush fire, officials say

STUART, Fla. (CBS12) — A brush fire broke out in Stuart early on Monday morning, prompting a response from firefighters who extinguished the flames.

Martin County Fire Rescue reported that firefighters responded to the slow-moving brush fire around 4 a.m.

Officials said that the fire occurred near Southeast Federal Highway and Southeast Osprey Street, impacting an area of approximately a quarter of an acre.

According to Fire Rescue, the fire was fueled by heavy vegetation, which caused it to burn longer and hotter than expected.

It was reported that crews were able to extinguish the flames without any injuries reported.

While the fire is under control, officials warned that drivers traveling along Southeast Federal Highway may still notice light smoke in the area.

Thankfully, no structures or power lines were threatened by the fire.
