ORLANDO, Fla. — The city of Orlando is unveiling the latest design for the permanent Pulse memorial that is scheduled to be built this fall.
Community members are invited to see updated renderings inspired by the work of the Pulse Memorial Advisory Committee. Thursday’s presentation is a 60% design update, advancing the work shown in March during the 30% update.
City staff say they will share the renderings with Spectrum News after tonight’s presentation. However, the mockups from March showcase features like an angel ellipse, a healing garden, a fountain wall, and a reflection pool.
Gomez Construction and Borrelli and Partners are in charge of the design and construction of the 3,500 square foot memorial.
The memorial will honor the 49 people killed during the June 2016 mass shooting. Demolition began and ended in March, nearly 10 years after the tragedy.
“We can’t go back and fix history. We can’t go back and fix time. What we can do is focus on just getting it done and moving forward because it does make a difference to the healing process. It does make a difference to the community at-large, and particularly the Latino and the LGBTQ community,” said Nancy Rosado, a member of the Pulse Memorial Advisory Committee.
According to the city’s timeline, construction will begin this fall and wrap up by fall 2027.
