FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — Teachers in Lee County could see up to $10,000 in extra pay next school year.
The School District of Lee County is offering up to $10,000 in extra pay for teachers in critical subjects during the 2026-2027 school year. The program represents an estimated $18 million in teacher compensation.
The incentives target teachers in subjects tied to state-mandated testing in grades 3-10, which directly measure student achievement. The program also includes subjects that build a foundation for tested areas.
This year’s program expands on last year’s incentives, which helped recruit and retain teachers while improving test scores and attendance.
The new plan extends eligibility to teachers in every school, with varying amounts based on the school’s risk level.
“Our goal is to make Lee County an A-rated school district, and that starts with asking our teachers to go where students need them the most. These incentives are essential in retaining the teachers who take on the most challenging and critical roles in our schools. said Superintendent Dr. Denise Carlin.
The School Board approved the program with a six-to-one vote.
The incentives take effect July 1 and will be paid on top of base salary. Teachers must meet all eligibility requirements before the 2026-2027 school year starts to receive the full incentive pay available to them.
