Since 1914 the iconic Yamashiro has stood in the Hollywood Hills of Los Angeles — a Japanese mountain palace turned highly coveted dining destination. Now, for the first time in its history, the restaurant group is opening a location outside of L.A., right here in Miami!

The new restaurant and bar, which sits on a stunning 9,000 sq. ft. rooftop with skyline views, will be located on the ninth floor of the Gale Miami Hotel & Residences near Miami Worldcenter. It’s led by Partner and Chef Charbel Hayek, a Top Chef MENA Champion, and is part of Boulevard Hospitality Group.

“Miami was the natural choice for Yamashiro’s first expansion,” Freddy Braidi, CEO of Boulevard Hospitality Group, said in a press statement. “Both cities celebrate culture, creativity, and bold flavor. Just like Hollywood, Miami is a place where design, energy, and global influences collide, and we saw an opportunity to bring Yamashiro’s century-long story to a city that mirrors its spirit.”

The L.A. location is a certified landmark, having been added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2012. It also has been featured in many TV shows and movies, including Memoirs of a Geisha, Kill Bill, Nocturnal Animals, Gone in 60 Seconds, Blind Date, A Thousand Men and a Baby, Playing God, and Teahouse of the August Moon. Similar to the L.A. Yamashiro, the Miami venue is decorated with Japanese design in mind — there’s reclaimed wood, unpolished stones, and bonsai trees, for example, along with fountains, koi ponds and fire pits. The entrance includes a vibrant floor-to-ceiling mural, and the wraparound bar is centered around the replica of a Japanese temple.

Some of the most noteworthy dishes from the Miami menu, created by Executive Chef Gustavo Montes, include (as copied from the menu):

‘JFC’ Japanese Fried Chicken tossed in a spicy gochujang buffalo sauce Wagyu Tomahawk featuring Australian wagyu complemented by bone marrow teriyaki and house pickles Iberico Pork marinated in a black garlic mojo and served with Calamansi emulsion Chilean Seabass gently roasted and served in a fragrant mandarin dashi with shiso flower The coveted Tomahawk steak at Yamashiro, by Executive Chef Gustavo Montes. As for cocktails, which, similarly to the food, draw on both Japanese and tropical Miami flavors, you can expect:

Dragon Pearls (gin, lychee shrub, sparkling sake, and beet air, finished with sweet lychee pearls) Fortune Teller (Japanese whiskey, honey, yuzu, sweet chili sauce, and a vibrant touch of blue spirulina) Samurai Negroni (mezcal, nigori sake, campari, Lillet rosé, and Italicus) Beso Robado (a clarified rum, nori, passion fruit, and sugar cane syrup)

Plus, an over-the-top (in the best way) Martini Cart for tableside cocktail mixing and liquid nitrogen chilled drinks served in “frozen crystal glasses.”

In the near future, there will be DJs, live instrumental performers, weekly events, and other special “unique activations.” And this is just the start for Boulevard Hospitality — at the end of this year, the Gale Hotel & Residences will expand with an invite-only speakeasy as well as “The 400 Club,” a 6,000-square-foot lounge that will combine Hollywood’s Golden Age with “Tokyo’s late-night cocktail culture.” Stay tuned for more!
