JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (CBS12) — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported its 10th officer-involved shooting this year, as a standoff ensued when a man armed with a rifle took his partner and baby hostage, threatening to “kill everyone” if officers intervened.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said that at 11:50 a.m. on Thursday, officers responded to a house on Eberly Drive off St. Johns Bluff Road regarding a call from a woman who reported that she had been battered by her partner, later identified as 30-year-old Marcus Delay.
Officials said that Delay had left the house before officers arrived, and while officers were preparing an arrest warrant for him, Delay returned to the house.
Delay then allegedly took his partner and their 9-month-old child hostage. In an escape attempt, the mother and child fled into a nearby wooded area and called 911. Officials said that this act led to a standoff, as Delay emerged from the residence, firing a rifle into the air.
It was reported that officers arrived at the area and found the woman and child in the wooded area when Delay began making threats, including promises of violence against both his partner and responding officers.
Dealy reportedly said he would “kill everyone” if officers showed up.

The report states that Delay found the woman with the officers and pointed his handgun. Two officers reportedly responded by firing. Delay was subdued and taken into custody. He was then transported to a local hospital for treatment of his gunshot wounds.
No officers were injured during this confrontation, per officials.
However, officials said that this incident marks a troubling milestone as the 10th officer-involved shooting of the year for the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
The State Attorney’s Office is currently on the scene, conducting an investigation, while the Sheriff’s Office will follow with its own inquiry upon completion of the initial investigation.
