ORLANDO, Fla. – Flights are delayed at Orlando International Airport due to an issue with staffing air traffic controllers, and a federal advisory says at some point Thursday night, there will be no certified air traffic controllers at all.
On average, flights are running about three hours behind at MCO.
An advisory released on the Federal Aviation Administration website shows a ground delay is in place for several airports, including MCO.
The advisory, which was issued by the Air Traffic Control System Command Center, says “users can expect a period of time later in the evening when no arrivals will be able to land as there will be no certified air traffic controllers available at MCO.
Now, this could change throughout the evening. The best thing to do if you are heading to the airport for a flight is to check with your airline.

News 6 has reached out to MCO officials to get more details. News 6’s Jarell Baker and Alex Cook are also at the airport working to get the latest and talk to people waiting for their flights.
The advisory comes as air traffic controllers and other federal aviation staff continue to work without pay because of the federal government shutdown, now in its 30th day.
