ORLANDO, Fla. — A dad-daughter duo who typically performs at Universal Orlando is doing something extra special this weekend.
The quintet is Ella & the Bossa Beat, blending contemporary jazz, soul, pop and the rhythms of Brazilian bossa nova.
Spectrum News was there for sound check ahead of their shows this weekend at Judson’s Live.
Ella Blu plays piano, writes the songs, and sings. Her dad is Magrus Borges, a Grammy-nominated drummer.
Borges caught on to Blu’s talent at a very young age.
“When she was 6 years old … she just started singing,” said Borges, widely recognized as one of the pioneers of bossa nova. “I’m looking to my wife and said, ‘Wow. We have a singer in the family!’”
Blu says that in addition to loving her dad as a father, they’re also friends, which helps with the overall dynamic.
“That dynamic of working together at home translates on stage when we’re finally doing what we love,” Blu said.
This weekend’s performances also celebrate their brand-new album release: Amare.
Tickets are still available Saturday, May 16, 2026 for an early and late set – at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Judson’s Live is located inside the Dr. Phillips Center in downtown Orlando.
