A Jacksonville movie production company is holding a double-feature fundraiser Sunday at the Illinois Theater to help cover production costs for its film “Holler,” according to Jacksonville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.
“Holler,” which is being produced by Pizza Records co-owner Devin Smock and Samuel Watkins under the Subterranean Sound and Vision banner, will be shot in Jacksonville and the surrounding area.
The producers describe it as “a low-budget, independent feature rooted in the spirit, landscape and character of downstate Illinois.”
The film takes place during a Midwestern zombie apocalypse in which the loner Ray, played by Rick Jensen, helps Sydney, a young woman played by Teagan Ealey, get back to her family.
Sunday’s fundraiser will include a double-feature screening of “The Last Man on Earth” and “Night of the Living Dead” starting at 4 p.m. at the Illinois Theater, 200 E. Court St. Along with the screening, participants can meet members of the cast and crew, and play games to earn prizes. Merchandise also will be for sale and donations will be accepted.
Smock and Watkins have said they want to make regional films with the help of local communities and without depending on the “traditional” film-making system. Area filming is expected to run May 30 through June 16 in Jacksonville, Arcadia, Winchester, Mount Sterling and Kampsville.
The company raised $5,355 during earlier fundraising efforts.
