The Tampa Bay Rays go for the series win against their in-state rivals on Saturday, hosting the Miami Marlins.

Both of these interleague Florida teams face off when the Tampa Bay Rays host the Miami Marlins on Saturday afternoon for Game 2. Tampa Bay won the opener in comfortable fashion, 7-2. Tampa Bay continues to roll at the top of the American League East standings. The Rays hold a two-game lead over the New York Yankees for the top spot with a 29-14 record, and they’ve been dominant at home, sitting at 15-4. Since a three-game losing streak ending on April 22, the Rays have only lost three games since going 17-3 in their last 20 games. Tampa has most recently won four of its last five games. Miami is looking to avoid losing three straight and four of its last five games. The Marlins are 20-25 and are in fourth place in the NL East standings. Cedric Mullins gave the Rays all the run support they would need to take the opener on Friday. Mullins hit a homer in the sixth inning for the game’s final run, after he had already hit three singles. The center fielder went 4-for-4 with the RBI, while Yandy Diaz hit a two-run homer in the first inning to set the tone for Tampa Bay. Jesse Scholtens got the win after going five innings of five-hit ball, while only giving up a homer to Miami’s Connor Norby in the second inning to improve to 4-2 on the season. The Marlins were only able to score one more time in the top of the sixth on a solo shot from Jakob Marsee. Miami’s Janson Junk struggled, giving up 10 hits and all seven runs in 5.2 innings.

The Marlins will try to bounce back today by starting Sandy Alcantara. The veteran righty is having a solid season with a 3-2 record and a 3.90 ERA in 57.2 innings. The Rays will have the advantage on the mound, though, in Game 2 since Nick Martinez is taking the bump. The righty is 4-1 with a 1.70 ERA in 47.2 innings.
