DORAL, Fla. (TNND) — President Donald Trump is celebrating a new gold statue of himself at Trump National Doral Miami in Florida, calling it a future “landmark” and thanking supporters who commissioned the tribute.

In a Truth Social post, Trump said the statue was created by a large group of political supporters and recently installed at the Doral resort, home to the well-known Blue Monster golf course.

“This is a statue, now standing at Doral, that was commissioned by a large group of political supporters who just wanted a statue of yours truly,” Trump wrote on Friday morning. “I very much appreciate their support, and all that they went through to get it done!

Trump went on to praise the supporters behind the project, describing them as “very good people,” and said visitors to the golf resort have reacted positively to the installation.

“Those playing the Blue Monster, at Doral, are absolutely in love with it,” he said. “With time, it will become a landmark!”

The 15-foot statue, rising to about 22 feet with its pedestal, was installed in April, and quickly became a focal point on the driving range.

Created by Alan Cottrill and reportedly commissioned by cryptocurrency group $PATRIOT, the gold-leaf bronze statue shows Trump with a raised fist following the July 2024 assassination attempt.

The installation sparked some criticism, including jokes from late-night hosts. Stephen Colbert referred to the statue as “recreational idolatry,” with Jon Stewart also poking fun at it.

Pastor Mark Burns, who is Trump’s a longtime spiritual adviser, defended the statue.

“What amazes me is how quickly some people have compared this beautiful statue, created and made possible by more than 6,000 patriots, to a golden calf or idol worship. Let me be very clear. We worship the Lord Jesus Christ and Him alone,” Burns wrote, in part, in a statement shared on X last week. “You may dislike President Trump. That is your choice,” he added. “But you are in gross error if you think for one second that I worship this magnificent statue or anything made by human hands … This was honor. This was gratitude. This was patriotism. And above all, Jesus Christ is still Lord.”

Trump National Doral Miami has long been one of Trump’s signature properties and frequently hosts political events, supporters and high-profile gatherings connected to the president.
