TAMPA, Fla. — The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has arrested 171 people in what it called “Operation Unmasking Predators.”
Authorities say the suspects were trying to sexually exploit children.
Among those arrested was a teacher at Chamberlain High School. The teacher, Robert Hess, is accused of trying to meet up with a 15-year-old boy and pay for sex.
Sheriff Chad Chronister talked about the arrests Thursday and said his deputies will be out in full force for Halloween on Friday.
“Our efforts will be ramped up going into (Friday) night, an extremely large covert and overt presence out there (Friday) night,” he said.
As part of the investigation, the sheriff said deputies saved a 17-year-old from two men who were trying to sell her for sex.
