The Jacksonville Police Department is now investigating after a young boy was shot and killed on Sunday.

According to reports, on May 17, 2026, at about 7:30 p.m., officers were called with reports of shots that had been fired in the 4000 block of South Highway 161.

While they were on the way, officers got word that one person had been shot in connection to the incident.

Once they arrived, they found a 6-year-old boy in a vehicle who had reportedly been shot multiple times. Police say that two adults were also in the vehicle with the boy, but they were not injured.

Officers immediately began to help the boy, and he was quickly taken to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

No information has been released regarding any possible suspects wanted in connection to this incident.
