MONROE COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — Sheriff Rick Ramsay says there is “no reason to be concerned” despite unverified online reports claiming possible Cuban drone activity targeting U.S. interests.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday it has not been contacted by any state or federal authorities regarding the reports, which reference alleged military action involving drones near the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay.

According to the agency, it has been unable to confirm the accuracy of the reports or determine where they originated. Officials emphasized that no changes have been made within the Sheriff’s Office in response.

“The Sheriff’s Office cannot confirm any news reporting regarding the aforementioned activities, is unable to substantiate where it originated, nor has Sheriff Ramsay ordered or directed agency members — including Patrol Deputies and Detention Deputies — of any change,” the agency said in a statement.

Ramsay said he is continuing to monitor the situation but reiterated that his office has received no credible information suggesting a threat to Monroe County or the Florida Keys.

“I am monitoring the situation, but I have not been contacted by any government agency, and I don’t believe there is any reason to be concerned,” Ramsay said.

I am confident I will be notified if anything does change, and I will alert the public.”

The statement comes as unverified claims continue to circulate on social media, raising concerns among some residents. Sheriff’s officials urged the public to rely on official sources for accurate information, especially regarding matters of national security.
