Two Miami University students are charged following a months-long drug trafficking investigation and searches at homes near the college.

On May 8, just before 11 a.m., a search warrant was conducted in the 200 block of South College Avenue, according to an Oxford Police Dept. news release.

Will Esler, a resident of that home and a Miami University student, was charged with the possession of a controlled substance – more than 27 grams of cocaine – and trafficking in drugs. He was taken to the Butler County Jail.

Officials on May 14 also raided a home on East Walnut Street and charged Michael Verlinden, 22. He appeared in court on charges of complicity to drug trafficking and complicity drug possession.

Cocaine, electronics and other paraphernalia were seized, according to the OPD.

Drug activity was tipped off to police from the United States Postal Service.

The searches were part of an investigation that is still ongoing, according to the press release, and anyone with additional information on drug activity is encouraged to contact OPD’s tip line at 513-524-5268.
