A Florida man has been arrested after a wild high-speed chase ended after he crashed his second-generation Lexus LS 400 into a tree line. According to a report by Gulf Coast News, the suspect joked with Florida highway patrol officers afterwards, asking, “Should I get a faster car for next time?”
The budding comedian was first spotted on Saturday night just before 10:30 pm by a Florida state trooper, according to police; the Lexus allegedly was driving about 100 mph on eastbound State Road 82 in Fort Myers, near the intersection of Colonial Boulevard, where the LS nearly rear-ended two other vehicles. “He was swerving in and out of traffic, and people thought he was going to go across the median and hit them,” Jessica Enamorado, a Lee County resident, told Gulf Coast News.
FHP says the trooper attempted to stop the Lexus, but the driver dipped into the 290-horsepower V-8, eventually exceeding 130 mph on the southbound Daniels Parkway and even allegedly turning off his headlights. Troopers say the driver lost control near Commerce Lake Drive and rolled into the tree line off the shoulder of the roadway. That’s when police finally caught up with the driver, identified by authorities as Yair Alberto Pavon-Rivera. While being arrested, Pavon-Rivera allegedly cracked the joke about needing a faster ride.
After being evaluated at the hospital, Pavon-Rivera was booked into the Lee County Jail and released on bond. Somehow, in spite of his reported wisecracks, we don’t think a Lexus LFA is in his future.
