Six kids, no home: St. Lucie mother of 6 left with nothing after fire

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — A St. Lucie County mother of six is now relying on community support after a devastating house fire destroyed her home Friday morning.

According to the St. Lucie County Fire District, crews responded around 7:15 a.m. to a home near Southwest Irving Street and Southwest Ray Avenue, where multiple rooms were engulfed in flames and heavy smoke was pouring from the structure.

Firefighters conducted an aggressive attack on the fire, searched the home and evacuated nearby residences as a precaution. Officials said no injuries were reported, but images from the scene show the fire burned a hole through the roof, leaving the home severely damaged.

The American Red Cross was called to assist the family following the incident.

Now, in the days after the fire, the focus has shifted to helping the family recover.

The homeowner — a mother of six who works at Publix — lost nearly everything in the blaze, including her home, clothes, and sense of security she and her family worked so hard to build.

A friend has set up a GoFundMe to help the family recover from the loss.
