LINDEN, Tenn. (CBS12) — A Florida man wanted for more than a decade on multiple drug and firearm charges was arrested Tuesday in Tennessee, marking the end of a 15-year effort tied to authorities in Bay County.

The U.S. Marshals Service announced that Perry Hand, 69, was taken into custody on May 19 by the U.S. Marshals Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force in Linden, Tenn. Hand had been wanted since 2011, when warrants were issued in Bay County Circuit Court after he failed to appear to face several felony charges.

Those charges include failure to appear for possession of a firearm by a violent career criminal, two counts of sale of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, sale of marijuana, and trafficking hydrocodone, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

The case originated in Bay County, where the sheriff’s office sought help from the U.S. Marshals Service Florida Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force in Panama City after Hand fled and remained at large for years. Investigators continued pursuing leads tied to Florida before new information recently pointed them out of state.

Authorities said they developed intelligence indicating Hand may have relocated to Tennessee. Deputy U.S. marshals and task force officers tracked him to the Drop Anchor RV Park in Linden, where he had been living.

Hand was arrested without incident and booked into the Perry County Jail. He is expected to eventually be returned to Florida to face the charges that stem from his Bay County case, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

U.S. Marshal Tyreece Miller of the Western District of Tennessee said the arrest underscores the long reach of federal and local partnerships across state lines.

“When the U.S. Marshals Service is on your trail, today could be the day your run is over,” Miller said in a statement.

Authorities have not released additional details about how long Hand had been in Tennessee, but officials emphasized the case remained active in Florida throughout the years he evaded capture.
