Fort Myers is set to participate in a water-quality improvement study with researchers from Florida Gulf Coast University.
City Council on May 18 approved a $10,000 grant from the FGCU board of trustees. The city will use the funds to collaborate with researchers and provide information on its water-quality improvement efforts as part of a statewide database.
The researchers plan to collect data from city, county and state entities, as well as from publicly available water-quality databases, according to a city staff report.
The data includes information on water bodies affected by pollutants, such as nutrients, sedimentation and harmful algal blooms, along with the costs and benefits of past, current and future water quality projects and identifies data gaps that could help reduce nutrient pollution.
