It’s a confectionery cause for celebration!
July 1 marks the 20th anniversary of Florida designating Key lime pie as the official state pie. But we’ve been enjoying every bite of the decadent dessert — with its tangy, creamy filling made from Key lime juice, egg yolks and sweetened condensed milk in a graham cracker crust — for much, much longer.
We get that people flock to the Florida Keys to fill their forks at some of the most famous (and historic) Key lime pie spots in the world. However, it’s easy as, well, pie to find a satisfying slice right here in South Florida at restaurants, bakeries, farm stands, gourmet markets and grocery stores.
Plus, as hot and humid days slink in, we’re deeming Key lime pie the perfect dessert to cool down with at your backyard barbecues, poolside brunches and July Fourth festivities this season.
