TAMPA, Fla. — Ted Hurst, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ third-round pick from Georgia State, is quickly adjusting to life in the NFL.
The rookie wide receiver, known for his impressive 6-foot-4 frame and 4.42-second 40-yard dash, has already made a positive impression during the team’s rookie minicamp earlier this month.
Hurst, who is adapting to Tampa Bay’s warmer climate, expressed enthusiasm about joining the Buccaneers, saying, “It’s hot, yeah it’s hot in Georgia but it’s a little more hot here for sure.” He is eager to learn and grow as a professional, focusing on utilizing resources like nutrition and recovery to enhance his performance.
Head Coach Todd Bowles is optimistic about Hurst’s potential, noting, “You can see the athleticism and size and everything you liked about him coming out of the draft. He’s going to get better and better as he learns the system and gets more comfortable.”
Hurst is motivated by the success of previous Bucs rookie receivers like Jalen McMillian and Emeka Egbuka, aiming to make an immediate impact this season. He is also excited to work with quarterback Baker Mayfield, stating, “He’s a great quarterback and I’m looking forward to that.”
The departure of franchise legend Mike Evans to San Francisco opened the door for Hurst’s arrival in Tampa Bay. However, Hurst is keen to learn from remaining star Chris Godwin and other veterans in the receiver room, saying, “Whenever they get around, I’m going to try to stick in those guys’ hip pockets and learn everything they know.”
Mike Biehl, Bucs Vice President of Player Personnel, emphasized that while Hurst won’t replace Evans, his size and speed are valuable assets. “He’s a big fast athletic guy that’s willing to learn and we’re excited about him,” Biehl said.
Hurst’s deep-threat ability could be a significant asset for the Buccaneers’ offense this season.
