South Florida is one of the busiest airspace environments in the United States, and for a long time it’s been underserved in MSFS 2024. MK Studios has been working to change that. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, the third busiest airport in Florida and a major hub for Caribbean and Latin American routes, is now available on Contrail, the first piece of what the developer is calling their “America project.”
KFLL handles a heavy mix of domestic and international traffic, with strong connections to the Caribbean and Latin America. It’s a natural choice for anyone who likes flying the US East Coast or running Caribbean routes, and it sits in a visually interesting setting, flanked by Port Everglades, the Atlantic coastline, and South Florida’s sprawling highway network.
According to the product listing, MK Studios has included a highly detailed recreation of the airport’s layout based on recent real-world references, with custom ground textures using PBR materials, animated jetways across all terminals, realistic approach lights and stop bars, and detailed taxiway signage and apron markings. The developer has also modelled the surrounding environment with what they describe as photogrammetry-matched terrain, and the highway network around the airport has been brought into three dimensions as well, adding depth to approaches and departures.
One thing worth noting: MK Studios includes a technical note in the listing flagging that various workarounds were used to model the runway 28L platform in detail, and that this may influence aircraft and AI traffic behaviour near that runway.
