TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Here’s a look at family-friendly events happening across the Big Bend and South Georgia to celebrate Memorial Day weekend.
Memorial Day is a federal holiday established in 1868 to honor and mourn members of the U.S. armed forces who died serving our country. Folks across the North Florida and South Georgia region can attend events throughout the weekend to honor those fallen soldiers.
Big BendCheck out the 74th annual Florida Folk Festival starting Friday, May 22, to Sunday, May 24, at Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park in White Springs. The festival will have food, music, arts and crafts from communities across the state. Florida State Parks is also offering free admission throughout Memorial Day weekend for those who enjoy the outdoors. The free admission can only be used during the day and excludes the Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park, Skyway Fishing Pier State Park, Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park and Weeki Wachee Springs State Park.Visit the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park located in Live Oak for a Memorial Day Getaway throughout the weekend. The weekend celebration will feature live performances, a golf cart parade, bounce houses and more. Find more details here.Skate World Center in Tallahassee is selling a Memorial Day Family Fun Pass that includes 4 admissions, 4 skate rentals, a large pizza, 4 large drinks, 4 glow items and a $25 game card. The pass is redeemable from Friday, May 22, to Sunday, May 24.The Seminole RC Club is holding a Memorial Day Warbird Meet on Sat. May 23 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee. People can come out to watch RC aircraft fly.Visit the Wakulla County Courthouse in Crawfordville for a Memorial Day Ceremony starting at 10 a.m. Mon. May 25. The event will feature the Wakulla High School Junior Navy ROTC and the American Legion.Visit the Tallahassee National Cemetery for a public Memorial Day commemoration ceremony on Saturday, May 23. The event begins at 10 a.m.South GeorgiaWild Adventures in Valdosta has a Memorial Day weekend sale from Sat., May 23, to Mon. May 25. The weekend will also feature special events, including a nighttime Drone Show.Commemorate the holiday at one of the many events happening at Georgia State Parks throughout the weekend.
