Leon County high school student sent home for wearing ‘Nazi soldier’ costume for Halloween, LCS says

  • October 31, 2025

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A Leon County high school student was sent home for a “deeply offensive” costume, according to an LCS spokesperson.

Spokesperson Chris Petley released a statement Friday morning about a student coming to school dressed as a “Nazi soldier” on Halloween.

According to the statement, school administrators took “immediate action to address the incident,” and the student will “face discipline in accordance with the student code of conduct.”

The statement described the costume as “deeply offensive, hurtful, and entirely contrary to the values of our school community.”

LCS said symbols associated with Nazism “have no place in our schools.”

An email sent to Leon High School students and parents obtained by WCTV also condemned the behavior, saying, “While we encourage creativity and fun during Halloween activities, hateful, discriminatory, or culturally insensitive costumes will not be tolerated.”

The student’s costume was posted to an Instagram page on Friday morning, drawing the attention of the Holocaust Education Resource Council (HERC).

A statement from HERC said it is “deeply disturbed and saddened” by the costume. “These acts are a painful reminder of the ignorance, hate, and indifference that allowed one of the darkest chapters in human history to occur.”

HERC commended Leon High School for addressing the issue quickly.

The organization also called on Leon County Schools to invite HERC into all middle and high schools to teach about the Holocaust, antisemitism, and the importance of standing up to hate.

WCTV is working to obtain legal permission to share photos associated with the incident.
