TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Dozens of people came together at the Tallahassee National Cemetery on Saturday for a Memorial Day celebration ahead of the holiday.
Director of the Tallahassee National Cemetery, Andrew Santa-Pinter, said it’s important to do every year.
“It’s something that has to continue throughout many years as far forward as we can,” Santa-Pinter said. “It’s imperative that we continue that legacy.”

Santa-Pinter said it’s also important to educate the younger generation on the significance of Memorial Day.
“We, as adults, have to keep teaching our youngsters the importance of what our veterans have done and continue to do,” Santa-Pinter said.
Saturday’s event also included a ceremonial, three-volley salute.
“We have people that have no connection to the military and they still respect that tradition of honoring our nation’s veterans and our heroes,” Santa-Pinter said.
The director urged everyone to remember those who fought and died every day of the year, rather than just on Memorial Day.
